Set Apart As A Full-Time Missionary

These are the notes from my blessing/setting apart by President Vance:

-gift of tongues, speak fluently as I put in the work. Will learn through speaking, dreams, and thinking in Croatian

-gift of healing, will have opportunity to bless the sick and afflicted. Have Courage and faith to (exercise it) lay your hands.

-gift of loving people and culture (music, food, traditions and customs, what they love) they will love me and I will love them

*garren and Paul (study Paul and pray for garren to be there w me and teach me)

-called to the work just as Paul was

-ability to love difficult companions (kindness and service, becoming lifelong true friends)

-God is placing a lot of trust in me to send me to the ANM, as I am obedient God will bless me to see right from wrong

-come to understand myself better and learn things to help me after the mission

-understand my identity*

-be able to articulate the gospel in simple and powerful ways like Paul, carry the name of Paul

-using my unique gifts and talents “they will blossom”

-to know with certainty that that is where the lord has called me (answer to questions and doubts)

-admitted that he might not be able to articulate everything God has for me in English (felt the spirit a number of times, burning in bosom and thinking of garren and Paul being there with me)

-I am foreordained to serve there and fought in the war in heaven alongside Heavenly Father and mother and learned there things I will use on my mission

-interview: to help w comparison, rejoice in the success of others, balance focusing on myself w focusing on others.

-I am a Harbertson and a Neil “that is flowing through my veins” (identity?) you do you, be yourself

-Julia: if we give up everything and put the Lord first by serving, we will learn and grow to make our marriages (whether to each other or other people) that much better

-where I study and do mtc will become a sacred place because of the experiences I have there

-don’t have to talk a certain way because other people do, stay true to my identity and my calling

This isn’t Mexico City.

The Lord knows you and loves you and trusts you. There may be a time it’s just you and a companion in a country and you don’t see the mission President for a few months. The Lord trusts you to know what to do, how to act, representing Him.

You are there to share what you’ve experienced, the fruit you’ve tasted growing up. You want them to have it too.

-the Lord himself assigned me to this mission

Simple Truths

Bit of a crazy week, we got COVID and are on the up but we saw lots of miracles even from inside our century-old apartment! We got tons of Facebook referalls the past few days and nearly all of them were so open and honest about wanting to learn about their Heavenly Father and what His plan is for them. Just such genuine, prepared people. As a missionary, you can go for a while looking just about everywhere for those kind of people but to no avail. So to have THEM look for US is such a miracle in and of itself!  As we taught these people, I gained a new appreciation for the simple truths of the gospel. I love how simple and pure it all is. Just the truth that God lives and loves you is life-changing! When someone really believes that and chooses to reach out to God, miracles happen! Worshipping God

We talked this Sunday at church about worshipping God and the first question that came to my mind was, "What does my worship look like?"  When I think of the word "worship", the first thing I picture is kneeling, singing, or praying. Yes, those are all parts of worship! But as I studied the Book of Mormon this week, I found a verse that broadened my perspective, Mosiah 4:19 reads, "For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have?"  Thinking about these words led me to two important gospel truths: 1.)We are all children of our Heavenly Father. 2.) We show God we love Him as we serve one another. (In other words, we worship God through serving His children) So this week as I went about my missionary work, it wasn't just teaching a lesson or calling through phone numbers or trying to start conversations on the street. Weakness

To be perfectly honest, these past few weeks have been a lot; our mission-wide conference with Elder and Sister Kopischke, planning transfers, meetings, conducting trainings, helping the group of new missionaries arrive and get settled, and of course finding and teaching! But I love it all! Sure, there were a lot of stressful, sleepless nights and last-second change of plans but God came through as He always does and everything worked out. And we are praying for, expecting, and seeing MIRACLES in our companionship and as a mission. There is a real new momentum in the work and in each missionary here and we all feel it! It's so exciting! There's been a few distinct times on my mission where I've seen God's hand the clearest. Each of those periods was marked with being placed in an uncomfortable situation and a feeling of hopelessness in my ability to succeed.
