Šišanje I Meekness

Image
Bok bok! We had a good week of lessons, service (breaking open safes and such), finding a new guy and then having a sit down talk for two hours about his sermon on the natural man, giving priesthood blessings, and getting our English classes and Halloween activity ready to go! My favorite moment this week happened today though. We went to get a šišanje (haircut) and I sat by this man (Miroslav) whose blind autistic son was getting a haircut. We started talking about the mission and he couldn't believe how long we stay out and told us how grateful he was for the "hope we bring to the world". Then his son, Viktor, sat down by me and we started talking about music and then he wanted to hear all about our church. So I explained that Christ established it and ended up teaching the whole Restoration to this guy, his son, and the barber. They all listened so closely to every word. When I finished, it was quiet for a little. And then I invited them to come and see for themselves....

A Successful Missionary

Pozdrav!  Favorite parts of the week: -Pula trip to visit members and meet up with an investigator, ended up getting 2 additional referalls for Istria while we were there! Huge blessing because the people referred live in the exact places we need people  -English connect (first day of registration was a bust) but were excited to see what happens this week after some more advertising  -Great lessons with some returning members and new people where the spirit was felt and Elder Childs and I felt directly inspired on what to teach and share *For all my missionary friends out there! : -This week I got a bit discouraged and I was thinking about what success as a missionary means. I started reading about two of my favorite missionaries, Ammon and Abinadi. I would consider both of these guys successful missionaries, but look at how different their missions were! While Ammon and his brethren found and baptized many, Abinadi served alone, was arrested and killed, and never really ...

Choose To Obey

Pozdrav svima! Tuesday we all came to Zagreb for transfers but a lot of the trainees got stuck in Frankfurt so we didn’t get to meet very many of them until the next day. Wednesday morning we showed up at the palace in the morning and after a quick meeting with the new trainees we got our assignments and left for our cities!   My companion for the next transfer is Elder Childs from good old St. George Utah. He’s a great guy; football and basketball player, loves boating, and also has some skills on the piano. Most importantly, he’s really driven and we’ve been working hard all week! We’ve had some cool miracles as we prepare to start our English classes on Wednesday; meeting some Polish guitarists that want to come jam at the church, a lady who lives under the senior apartment, and a bunch of high school kids at a service project who want to pick up some English! (see how that goes in a couple days) We’re having a great time in Rijeka trying to make new foods and try new ideas (lot...

For What You Can Become

Image
Ej bok!  I've only got a little time tonight to write so I will make it quick! I am staying in Rijeka this transfer (next 3 months) and I will be training! Just got to Zagreb and we will be meeting the new missionaries when they get here tomorrow! Super stoked and excited (and of course a little nervous) but I have faith that God will help me fulfill this role and teach and learn from whoever it will be!  Elder Hazel heads home tomorrow as well, and I can't say in words how grateful and blessed I was to have him as my trainer. He is a true leader, a powerful teacher, and an example for me as the kind of missionary I want to become.  This weekend we had the wonderful opportunity to hear the word of God in general conference. One thing that brought me a lot of peace was these words, "You are called for what you can become"(or something like that). We may feel inadequate in the moment, but I love the perspective in these words. We are called now to become something more!...
