By Small Means
This week was amazing, we went on 3 exchanges in Osijek, Zagreb, and Split which meant a lot of driving but we saw lots of miracles. God placed His elect on our path and we went out and found them.
One of my favorites was a student from Mexico who has been recently trying to develop his own understanding of God. We talked for a while and got to know each other and then I asked how much he wanted to know God and what he was willing to do to gain that. He thought for a bit and realized he was willing to put God in a higher priority in his life and search for truth. I shared with him the Book of Mormon and bore my testimony that he would come to know his Heavely Father if he learned about him and sought him in prayer. He was so grateful that we cared enough to listen and share how he could come to know God and said he would read and pray.
A second quick one happened today in Split while waiting in line for gelato. I started talking to the guy next to me who ended up being from Brazil and again we became quick friends and then he asked how I was able to commit to this decision to serve and give this time to God. I asked him what he thought and after thinking for a minute he said that I must really believe in what I was teaching. I shared my testimony of Jesus Christ and the impact He has had in my life and the desire I have for others to come to Him and find the same joy and peace. My friend shared that he was at a point where he really did want to find God again and wanted to put Him in the first place in his life but found it hard to commit to that decision. I promised him that if he would commit, it would change the rest of his life. And saying that felt so right and I knew it was true. (I love when the Holy Ghost gives that confirming assurance). He said he is committing starting today and I'm so stoked to see where it leads.
Spiritual thought:
"And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things." (1 Nefi 16:29). This verse has become one of my favorites on the mission! Every decision, every prayer, every testimony we bear has a big impact, actually an eternal impact. Our efforts each day to do the small things are essential in the long run.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers!
Elder Neil
